Kylian Mbappé might only be 19 years old, but he’s now officially a soccer phenomenon.
Mbappé helped France snag their second ever World Cup title, all while becoming the youngest goal scorer for France at the World Cup and the second teenager ever to score in the World Cup final. But how did he rise up to World Cup royalty?
Mbappé was born on December 20th, 1998 in Paris, France, and many say they knew right off the bat that he would be a soccer star. Born to a former soccer player and coach, he spent most of his childhood at the local soccer club, in the Parisian suburb of Bondy.
In 2015, he made his first-team debut for professional club Monaco and broke the record for the youngest player to be first-team at the age of 16. He became a highly sought after player and it wasn’t long until he was signed to the Paris-Saint Germain club from Monaco on loan.
In 2018, it was announced that he would join the French team for the 2018 World Cup. He then went on to help his team advance to the finals and score the 4th goal against Croatia.
He also wanted the World Cup to be an opportunity for a humanitarian cause as well. With the win, France is estimated to receive $38 million in prize money. Mbappé has said that we will donate his earnings to a charity that gives sports instruction to hospitalized and disabled children.
