The winter Olympics are stalking up on condoms. The athlete’s village in Pyeongchang is coming equipped with 110,000 rubbers — which is roughly 37 condoms per athlete. Though the competitions at the Olympics are obviously fierce, the Olympics villages are notorious for being a nonstop party. In fact, organizes handed out 100,000 condoms during the 2014 Sochi games, to try and insure that as much safe sex happened as possible.
Swimmer Ryan Lochte once estimated that 75% of Olympians hook up during the games — that’s a whole lot of athletes. This actually makes sense, considering the village consist of the world’s most talented and physically fit individuals all in one area.
U.S. swimmer Summer Sanders joked the ESPN “What happens in the village stays in the village.”
In addition to complimentary condoms, this year’s Winter Village also has a fitness center, a media center and 24/7 dining options. With all that, it’s a wonder the athletes even find time for the actual games. Although we only get to see what the athletes are doing during their intense winter competitions, it sounds like what they’re doing away from that is pretty crazy. This definitely goes to show you, despite their crazy athletic abilities, Olympic athletes are people just like us — and they also have libidos.
