White Sox Pitcher Danny Farquhar Throws First Pitch After Brain Hemorrhage Recovery

MLB pitcher Danny Farquhar returned to the mound after suffering a brain hemorrhage earlier this year.

The Chicago White Sox welcomed him back after he collapsed in the dugout during a game in April, and was rushed to the hospital in critical condition. The collapse was due to a brain hemorrhage caused by a ruptured aneurysm.

Just weeks later, he threw out the first pitch surrounded by his family, teammates, and the medical staff who cared for him during his recovery. He threw the ceremonial pitch to fellow pitcher Nate Jones, who helped the White Sox win against the Milwaukee Brewers.

The team also donated a portion of the game’s ticket sales to the Joe Niekro Foundation, an organization that supports patients and families and raises funds for research, treatment and awareness of brain aneurysms.

Farquhar was cleared to throw a baseball, but won’t be cleared to pitch in a game for a while. However, he plans to make an actual MLB return as soon as he possibly can.

"Aerobically, I'm feeling really strong ... [but] big league baseball compared to other levels of baseball is a big difference," Farquhar said to ESPN. "I think I'll be back there one day."
