People love to hate Tom Brady--the 41-year-old Patriots MVP has five super bowls and a net worth of $180 million under his belt and in addition to his fans, the star quarterback has racked up many, many haters.
While Brady might be a star on the field--his off-field drama has lost him some likability points. In 2006, he famously split with girlfriend Bridget Moynahan and began dating supermodel Gisele Bündchen while Moynahan was pregnant with Brady’s child. Bündchen and Brady are still married to this day and have two children of their own, Vivian and Benjamin, together.
Nearly a decade later, in 2015, Brady was photographed with a ‘Make America Great Again’ hat inside his locker and expressed his support for Donald Trump saying it would be “great” if he were to get elected. He has since distanced himself from the president but has only gone so far as to call him “divisive’ in 2018.
On top of his off-field shenanigans, Brady’s on the field reputation isn’t so hot either--yes, that’s right, we are talking Deflategate. Brady served a 4-game suspension in 2016 after an NFL investigation found “substantial and credible” evidence of the quarterback’s involvement in the Patriots allegedly deflating footballs to gain a competitive advantage during a 2015 playoff game. While Brady has maintained his innocence in the controversy, it is not his best look and was certainly, at the very least, more fodder for the fire.
Perhaps most frustrating of all, is the fact that Brady and the Pats just keep on winning. On Sunday February 3, going up against the Los Angeles Rams, Brady is entering his 9th Super Bowl in 17 years, and his 3rd in the last five years. Brady has won the most Super Bowls of any quarterback in NFL history and now has the chance to build on that legacy once again.
For an entire generation, Brady has essentially been the “final boss” of NFL football and his run of success has made him the superstar QB Pats fans love and the rest of America loves to hate.
