Cannabis might be the largest job creator in the U.S.
Since states in the U.S. began legalizing cannabis, more than 211,000 full-time jobs have reportedly opened up in the burgeoning weed industry.
In 2018, the legal weed industry added more than 64,000 full-time jobs, according to a study by Whitney Economics and Leafly. As of March 2019, 10 states and Washington, D.C. have legalized weed for recreational purposes and another 34 states have legalized medical cannabis.
As more states continue to legalize cannabis for adult and medical use, the number of jobs is projected to rise exponentially. Between 2017 and 2020, the weed workforce is expected to increase by 110%. For perspective, the 2nd fastest growing U.S. job is for solar voltaic installers, which is expected to increase by 105% over the course of 10 years, which would make cannabis the fastest job creator in the U.S.
