This lesser-known cannabinoid has insane medical benefits.
Delta-9 is the most commonly talked about form of THC (it’s the main psychoactive cannabinoid in weed). But another cannabinoid known as Delta-8 THC is showing a lot of promise as an antiemetic, that can relieve nausea and vomiting in pediatric cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy.
Dr. Raphael Mechoulam, an award-winning cannabis researcher who first isolated a synthesized THC, performed 480 Detla-8 THC treatments on pediatric cancer patients who were receiving chemo. The THC treatment started 2 hours before each chemo session and was repeated every 6 hours for 24 hours. The study found those treated with Delta-8 THC didn’t experience any vomiting.
Few companies are providing Delta-8 THC concentrates because they’re more difficult to extract. But, through a partnership with PAX Era, licensed cannabis cultivator Oregrown is now making Delta-8 THC vape cartridges available at its dispensary In Bend, Oregon, as well as other dispensaries throughout the state. Cannabis is continuing to prove that it’s not just a recreational substance, but something that can have plenty of medical benefits. As experiments like these increase, hopefully the substance's many different forms will continue to be harnessed for the benefit of people with health ailments.
