Here's Why Cynthia Nixon Wants Legal Weed In New York

Cynthia Nixon wants legal weed in New York, and this is why:

In the midst of the “Sex and the City” star’s campaign to become New York governor, Nixon released a Facebook video Wednesday, April 11 explaining the reasons why she supports cannabis legalization.

“There are a lot of good reasons for legalizing marijuana, but for me it comes down to this: We have to stop putting people of color in jail, for something that white people do with impunity,” she stated, “80% of the New Yorkers who are arrested for marijuana are Black or Latino, despite the fact that whites and people of color use marijuana at roughly the same rates.”

In March 2018, New York City Council passed a bill that requires the NYPD to post an online cannabis enforcement report to track the specific demographics being targeted for low-level weed offenses. However, the bill has yet to be signed by New York Mayor Bill de Blasio.

Nixon would be New York’s first female governor and the state’s first openly LGBTQ+ governor. She’d also be the first governor with an Emmy, Grammy and a Tony.

Many people are already huge fans of her candidacy announcement, and it’s not just because she was on one of the best television shows ever.
