News Anchor Claims Arizona Teachers' Protests Are a Secret Plot to Legalize Cannabis
This reporter had to erase her tweet about an education movement, after claiming it was all a ploy to legalize weed.
In the since-deleted tweet, Fox 10 Phoenix anchor Kari Lake claimed that the #RedForEd movement of teachers striking in Arizona is a ploy to legalize cannabis for adult use in the state.
“What did I say?!” she said in the tweet. “#RedForEd is nothing more than a push to legalize pot. Check this out. T-shirts are already printed!! This is a big push to legalize post and make it more savory by tossing teachers a bone with a substantial raise. #IHateTheDishonesty.”
Lake also posted her theory on Facebook stating, “Keep hearing calls for legalizing pot to fund teacher raises, starting to think that has been the end-game all along. How much Legalize-Pot $$ is being poured into Red for Ed? Or are the legalize-pot folks just piggybacking on the teacher pay issue? Either way, it seems unsavory.”
When teachers first announced they would strike due to funding cuts and lack of sufficient pay, Lake voiced her doubts about their intentions on Twitter. But after her first tweet was met with severe backlash, she deleted it and apologized on air that evening, stating, “I made an incorrect conclusion in my tweet, and for that I’m sorry. I respect teachers deeply and I’m concerned that some are trying to use the teachers’ fight for higher pay to move forward with their own separate agendas.”
