ABC reportedly killed an episode of “Scrubs” because of weed.
The medical sitcom, which aired from 2001 to 2010, filmed a medical cannabis-related episode that was allegedly thrown out by ABC.
“We only shot one thing ever that Bill [Lawrence] had to throw out,” actor Zach Braff said at Vulture Fest LA. “That many years ago, they were like, ‘Medical marijuana? Get the hell out of here!’”
Braff said that the episode was about a cancer patient who used medical weed to treat chemotherapy symptoms. When the show’s creator Bill Lawrence took the episode to ABC, he tried to make a point, but the network, which is owned by Disney, wasn’t going to let it happen.
“We had this story about getting medical marijuana for somebody who was having trouble with chemo and cancer,” he said. “So to make a point, I said, ‘What if the patient was a virgin and decided that want to have sex for the first time and Carla and Elliot wanted to go looking for a male prostitute for him?’ They said, ‘Oh, that’s fine.’ We could get a prostitute, just not medical marijuana.”
